A roast beef sandwich from Nick’s Famous Roast Beef in Beverly is in the spotlight after being named one of the best sandwiches in the country.

People Magazine recently partnered with online restaurant guide The Infatuation to release a list of the best sandwiches in every state (and Washington, D.C.). The large beef sandwich with cheese and sauce from Nick’s Famous Roast Beef was dubbed the best sandwich in Massachusetts.

“Roast beef is huge north of Boston. You can hardly drive a mile without passing a restaurant that advertises beef sandwiches. Some are chains, many are mediocre. Nick’s, where the motto is “We’re The Only One,” is in the top tier of excellence. Like all the local roast beef houses, it is a self-service joint where you place your order and wait for a number to be called, then carry your own tray to a table somewhere in the small strip-mall…“
